Did you knew that one of the biggest worries for adolescents is their appearance ??? Changing body shape, hair in unlikely places, spots breaking out – no wonder teenagers spend so much time looking in the mirror.

Adolescence stage is a difficult transition in life when a person is not a kid anymore nor old enough. It is the stage when a person establish the sense of acceptance vs rejection making them so particular with the way they look. Irony is, this is also the stage when there are a lot of changes that occur in the body – change in the tone of voice, growth in some parts of the body, hormonal changes and more. Add to that peer/family/society pressure and a teenager is up for the most difficult stage of life.
But there is a reason for everything. This stage prepares a person to adulthood, to becoming a grown up. To being able to define who he/she really is.
As adults, our responsibility is to be more understanding and supportive of them. They need care, for they are still kids after all. Above this, they need guidance, I said guidance not control. If everything else doesn’t work, I think prayers will do.
I once read somewhere a phrase that best put parenting to teenagers to words:
Children are like visitors to our homes, they stay just for awhile, so give them all the tools that they would need. For sooner or later they will leave our homes and their preparedness to facing the world depends on these tools we gave them in their brief stay in our homes.
I wish you well.
